Who am I?
I remember reading AD Gordon as a teenager and my soul being on fire with the idea of salvation through physically working the sacred soil of the promised land. Alas, the reality I confronted on Kibbutz was just a bit different.
So I wandered through philosophy, Buddhism, graduate school in religious studies, Native American practice (but really hard to do that without culturally appropriating it, and I was profoundly uncomfortable with that), being a social worker and then a business owner and stewarding a beautiful 100 acre farm. All the while I was looking to find a way back into a Judaism that felt right to me.
I knew I was both a completely committed Jew and one who simply could not find my way into any kind of Judaism I had ever experienced.
EarthbasedJudaism.org is a synthesis of the lessons I have learned and of my commitments to a spiritual development that centers the more than human world in a Jewish way.
My name is Jared Gellert, and I invite you to join me on this journey.
